The Start of Advanced Art: Year Two

As a senior in High School, I am both excited and nervous about the next stage in my life. College. Picking a college is looking like it is going to be a much harder decision for me. Right know it is between the College for Creative Studies, Kendall, and Grand Valley. I have most of the hard stuff out of the way. I did my portfolio reviews with Kendall and CCS, and got accepted into both! I still have my portfolio review with Grand Valley to go, as well as the statement of purpose for Kendall.

The biggest factor for me is cost. I am paying for this college thing by myself. With money that I do not have. The biggest thing I want to do in Advanced Art this tri is push my work to a new level. Give my work more of an awe factor. Go beyond everything I have gotten to at this point. I feel like this is my best chance for scholarships. The only way that I am going to go to the college that I want to without drowning myself in an ocean of debt is with scholarships. I have been lucky enough to get scholarships from all of the schools I have applied too. These scholarships don't cover most of the tuition and fees, but they make significant dents in them.

So enough of me rambling on, here is my portfolio in no particular order!

Spring Things

I have been very busy over the last couple of weeks getting ready for the end of the school year, my ACT re-take, finding a job, and the various other things that fill up my week. All of this has left me little time for my art. I have been doing as much as I can, drawing and paining something hear and there, but it hasn't been much.

My schools arts festival is coming up soon (next week Sunday to be exact and a day after my birthday!) I have been doing quick watercolor sketches to sell there. Here are the ones that I've done so far. I am going to try and find a place that can make nice copies of these so that I can have more than just one of each.

In other news, I am just about finished with a seminar series with the Art Works program and the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art on urbanity and how artists are surviving and thriving, and breathing new life into urban areas. I'm excited to do as much street/ intervention/what-not art this summer!

Eggs and Radios

I have been very busy in My Adv. Art class!! Here are a couple of the things I've done over the last month.

The radio was done in 5 different grey-scale markers. Parts of this was really challenging..cough cough....the background. I originally wanted the background to be seamless. I wanted it be a grey that faded into white. Right as I stared it though, the markers started to die, and I knew it wasn't going to turn out. I'm glad that my plans didn't work out, because I like the background the way it ended up. It make the radio stand out.

After doing the radio, I started working on 4 still lives. Each one in a different medium. This one is done in chalk pastels. The yellow background was not my original idea, in-fact, it wasn't my idea at all. BUT I am so happy that I listened because it makes the eggs look 10x better!

Impasto Cows

...Well steers, not cows.

This past month I have created two paintings of the same steer, #55, using palette knives. The first one that I did, the more depressed looking of the two, was for a birthday present. I liked the steer so much that I painted him again, this time in a more unique and happy way. I like both of them; #55 is a great model.

In other news I opened up an etsy recently! If you have seen any prints that you liked on here, odds are they are now up for sale here!!!

Moo.
