Printing Printing Printing....and More Printing

Hear are some more prints from the last few days. I am thinking of only doing a print or two more in this edition. I have 30  prints so.
I am thinking of experimenting with water color prints next.
This is my favorite  so far. I am really happy with the way that the prints go together.
I really like the colors in this one.

I was digging around in old magazines from the 60's and came upon this page. I really liked the quote at the top. This is the start of the print, I ended up covering the whole page in red prints.

More single prints, my favorite two are in the far right corner and bottom left corner.

The Art of Printing

It's Tuesday now and I have done a LOT of printing since my last post. I spent about 3 hours or so on Friday and another 4 on Monday at the printing press. I now feel like I know that printing press a little too well!

I learned the process of producing well prints through many trial and errors. Some of these errors include: not lining up my lino and paper correctly, putting too much ink on the lino plate, and the biggest of all, forgetting to put down newspaper over the lino plate and paper. This resulted in getting ink on the matting of the brand new printing press,(I am really, really, truly, very sorry Mrs.Woods). On the bright side, if there is a bright side, the matting can be flipped over. Again, I am really sorry!

Here is what my experiences so far with printing have taught me: never forget to cover up you lino plate and paper, don't put too much ink on the plate, make sure the pressure on each side of the press is equal, wash you plate frequently and WAIT for the plate to dry before your print again ( I have ruined several prints just because the lino plate was still wet). When you do multiples wait for ink to dry before you print on the paper again. And most important, don't forget to cover up you plate and paper when you got to print.

This one so far is my favorite, i am happy with the way the red and black look with each other. I also like the way the print turned out.

This is another of my favorites.

All of my single prints.

I am going to do another one like this but with black and red.

Near Completion

Over Thursday and Friday I nearly completed my linoleum printmaking project. On Thursday i brain stormed and researched an idea for the design of my plate. After much consideration I decided on having my lino print be of the inside of a pocket watch.

This was what I came up with for the design of my linoleum print. I started to regret putting so many details in the design when i started to carve this into the plate
After several minutes and mistakes, I figured out how to carve into the plate without cutting myself. I found that as time went on, the linoleum became easier to cut into and it became easier for me to carve out all of the details in the pocket watch, and I became more and more willing to put the details in.

I am know finished with my plate and my next post will focus in detail on the process of printing my pocket watch.

The Beginning...

For the next few weeks I will be documenting my first ever experience with linoleum printmaking. In other words, I will be using this blog as a learning log. Any difficulties that I have with with this project I will talk about, along with my achievements and mistakes. I have no idea what to expect from this experience, but what ever comes of it, I will share on this blog.
